Importance of BIVR Membership

BIVR has had the responsibility for looking after the interests of verbatim reporters for over a century.  A reporter who has been admitted as a Member or Fellow of the BIVR has a qualification that commands the respect and confidence of all those concerned in the manning of the courts and the process of justice.  The same goes for any sphere (of which there are many) in which BIVR members exercise their skills.

BIVR membership and accreditations are recognised nationally and internationally.

BIVR promotes standards of excellence for the profession and public.

All accredited and registered members of BIVR are shorthand writers with a high level of skill and knowledge.  They are independently examined and competent in applying their skills to produce a verbatim written record.

BIVR members are kept informed about changes within the profession and factors that can affect their working practice.

Use of technology is encouraged to enable reporters to perform their roles efficiently and effectively.

BIVR also accepts students following a bona fide course of machine or pen shorthand, subject to the endorsement of the Council.
