How to become a Member?
Sign and submit to the Secretary an application countersigned by two Fellows or Members
Practical notetaking of up to one hour's duration, without the aid of mechanical recording. The transcript must be submitted within three weeks of the date of the examination.
For CAT Membership, candidates must also provide a first draft computer print-out of the test piece without editing or scoping.
How will the exam be conducted and by whom?
A Fellow or Member of the BIVR will be appointed to examine you in a court or other appropriate venue.
What do I need to know about preparing a transcript?
A good knowledge of English grammar, punctuation and spelling.
Can I resit the exam if I fail the first time?
Yes.

For application to transfer in, you should be a member of a recognised professional shorthand writing body. Otherwise, please apply to become a member using the application for admission forms and be prepared to undertake a practical test.
